Vancouver: In a significant development in the investigation into the murder of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian court has granted bail to four individuals accused of involvement in the killing, as reported by India Today. Nijjar, an India-designated terrorist, was shot dead in June 2023 in Surrey, Canada. His death has sparked a diplomatic row between India and Canada.
The four accused—Kamalpreet Singh, Karanpreet Singh, Amandeep Singh, and Karan Brar—are facing charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The court has granted them bail, and the trial will proceed with the next hearing scheduled for February 11 in the British Columbia Supreme Court.
The case made international headlines when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused Indian ‘agents’ of being behind Nijjar’s murder. Trudeau’s allegations pointed to India’s involvement in the assassination of the pro-Khalistan leader, a claim that has led to tensions between the two countries. In a statement to the Canadian parliament, Trudeau alleged that Indian agents were responsible for eliminating Nijjar.
