New Delhi: Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of crossing all limits of political decency by referring to BJP leader and Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu as a “traitor” inside the Parliament complex.

Taking to social media platform X, Puri said Rahul Gandhi’s remarks were not just a personal insult but an affront to parliamentary values and the dignity of the Sikh community. “The way Rahul Gandhi has addressed a parliamentarian and respected Sikh leader Sardar Ravneet Singh Bittu as a ‘traitor’ crosses all boundaries of civility, decency and dignity,” Puri wrote.

Puri suggested that Gandhi’s remarks may have stemmed from political bitterness rather than facts. “It is entirely possible that he holds a deep grudge against Bittu Ji for choosing the policies of Vikas espoused by the Modi Government over the directionless Congress,” he said, adding that political disagreement could never justify such language.

The Union Minister strongly objected to the phrase “traitor friend” used by Gandhi, saying it carried a serious and dangerous implication. “Calling someone a ‘traitor friend’ means he has betrayed his country,” Puri wrote. “While Shri Gandhi may have many friends who are traitors, Shri Bittu is certainly not one of them.”

Highlighting Ravneet Singh Bittu’s personal and family history, Puri said the allegation was especially offensive. “Calling a proud Sikh whose own grandfather was slain by terrorists a traitor without any basis is unacceptable,” he stated.

Puri further warned that such remarks go beyond individual politics and hurt collective sentiments. “Calling a distinguished Sikh a traitor without any basis is a slur on the entire Sikh community,” he said, urging greater responsibility from senior opposition leaders.
