Patna: The ongoing BPSC exam controversy in Bihar intensified on Friday with political figures Prashant Kishore and Pappu Yadav taking strong stances. Kishore, the founder of Jan Suraaj, entered the second day of his fast unto death, demanding the cancellation of the 70th Combined Competitive Examination held by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) on December 13.
Kishore, speaking to ANI, targeted Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accusing him of prioritizing power over governance. “Nitish Kumar doesn’t want to work, he wants to be in power only. That’s the reason he didn’t help the people of Bihar during the COVID crisis. He is not worried about anything except staying in power,” Kishore said, adding that he was fasting in solidarity with students who were allegedly beaten by police during earlier protests.
The controversy surrounding the BPSC exam intensified after claims of a question paper leak, prompting widespread protests from students. In response to the escalating tension, MP Pappu Yadav joined the protests, leading a rail roko demonstration at Patna’s Sachiwalay Station to demand the cancellation of the exam.
Yadav’s protest was met with police action, with a lathicharge dispersing his supporters from the tracks. Frustrated by the police’s response, Yadav threatened to escalate the agitation with a statewide “chakka jam” (traffic blockade) if his demands were not met.
