New Delhi: In a strongly worded statement, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday came down heavily on China and Turkey for their continued support to Pakistan, urging both nations to use their influence to compel Islamabad to dismantle its long-standing terror infrastructure.

Addressing a weekly press briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal made India’s position unmistakably clear. “We expect Turkey to strongly urge Pakistan to end its support for cross-border terrorism and take credible, verifiable action against the terror ecosystem it has harboured for decades. Relations are built on mutual sensitivity to each other’s concerns,” he said.

The rebuke came amid India’s recent decision to suspend security clearance for Turkish ground-handling company Celebi. On this, Jaiswal said, “I understand this decision was taken by Civil Aviation Security,” while confirming that the issue had been communicated to the Turkish Embassy.

Turning to China, Jaiswal revealed that India’s National Security Advisor had conveyed New Delhi’s firm stance on terrorism during a conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on May 10, 2025. “The Chinese side is well aware that mutual trust, respect and sensitivity remain the foundation of India-China relations,” he added, implying that Beijing’s continued shielding of Pakistan undermines the bilateral relationship.

Jaiswal also addressed recent claims made by former US President Donald Trump regarding his role in diffusing tensions between India and Pakistan. Reaffirming India’s longstanding policy, he stated, “Any engagement with Pakistan must be bilateral. At the same time, talks and terror cannot coexist.”

The MEA also reiterated India’s conditions for future dialogue with Islamabad — including the immediate and verifiable handover of listed terrorists. On Jammu and Kashmir, Jaiswal clarified that the only discussion possible would be on Pakistan vacating illegally occupied Indian territories.

In a notable development, Jaiswal linked the implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty to Pakistan’s counter-terrorism commitments. “It will remain in abeyance until Islamabad credibly and irreversibly ends its support for cross-border terrorism,” he asserted.
