As the nation gears up for the pivotal Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its comprehensive manifesto, titled ‘Sankalp Patra’, on the birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, a pivotal figure in India’s constitutional framework. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with key party leaders, presented the manifesto, outlining a vision for a developed India across various sectors.
In his address during the manifesto release, PM Modi emphasized the core principles of the ‘Sankalp Patra’, stating, “This ‘Sankalp Patra’ strengthens the four pillars of developed India – youth power, women empowerment, the poor, and farmers. Our focus is on the dignity of life, quality of lives, and job creation through investment.”
The manifesto encompasses a plethora of promises and initiatives aimed at fostering growth and inclusivity in the country. Key highlights include the declaration of the year 2025 as the ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Year’, advocating for ‘One Nation One Election’ and a “single electoral roll”, continuation of the free ration scheme for the next 5 years, and extending the Ayushman scheme to include all elderly persons above the age of 70.
Furthermore, the BJP pledges to empower more ‘Lakhpati Didis’ and aims to revolutionize the energy sector with the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, promising to make electricity bills zero. The manifesto also outlines ambitious goals such as India’s bid for the Olympics in 2036, implementation of the National Education Policy, and stringent measures against paper leaks.
Central to the BJP’s vision is the aspiration to propel India to become the third-largest economy globally and establish the nation as a “global manufacturing hub.” The unveiling ceremony witnessed the presence of prominent leaders including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and party President JP Nadda.
JP Nadda, addressing the gathering, attributed the government’s achievements over the past decade to the decisive mandate received from the people. “The achievements of the last 10 years are a result of a clear mandate,” he affirmed.
The formulation of the manifesto involved extensive deliberations by a committee led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, reflecting the party’s commitment to incorporate diverse perspectives. The BJP received a staggering 1.5 million suggestions for its manifesto, underscoring the engagement of citizens in shaping the party’s agenda.
With the Lok Sabha polls scheduled from April 19 to June 1, 2024, and involving seven phases, the electorate comprising around 970 million individuals holds the key to determining the course of the nation’s future. Concurrently, legislative assembly elections and by-elections across several states further amplify the democratic fervor gripping the nation.
