BJP Targets Kejriwal Over ‘Sheesh Mahal’ Amid Delhi Polls, Slams Renovation Costs and Alleged Corruption

 ₹1 Crore for Curtains, ₹70 Lakh for Doors: BJP Accuses AAP of Corruption Over CM’s Renovated Residence

New Delhi: As Delhi gears up for its upcoming Assembly Elections, the political atmosphere in the national capital is intensifying. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a fresh salvo at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his party, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing them of corruption and irregularities in the renovation of the CM’s official residence, which has been dubbed the “Sheesh Mahal” by critics.

In a new video released by the BJP, the saffron party fiercely criticized Kejriwal’s handling of his official residence, questioning the massive expenditure on what they described as a lavish, unnecessary project amid the ongoing hardships caused by the pandemic.

BJP spokespersons claimed that Kejriwal, who came to power with the promise of integrity and a humble lifestyle, had violated his own vows. “Kejriwal, who came to power by lying and deceiving, had said on entering politics that he would not take a bungalow and would live in a two-room house. He even distributed affidavits to this effect. But the same man, after becoming CM, built a den of loot called Sheesh Mahal,” the BJP stated in its post on X (formerly Twitter). The post further alleged that this extravagant renovation was undertaken at a time when Delhi, grappling with the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, was in urgent need of resources and medical support.

The BJP’s accusations focus on the extravagant renovation costs, with reports citing that the curtains for the residence were worth ₹1 crore and the doors ₹70 lakh. “This house was built when Delhi, plagued by a pandemic like Corona, was struggling for every breath. Kejriwal, instead of focusing on alleviating the suffering of the people, was busy gathering luxury items for his Sheesh Mahal,” the BJP alleged.

Additionally, the BJP questioned the delayed possession of the house by AAP MLA Atishi, claiming it was part of an effort to obstruct ongoing investigations by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged corruption tied to the renovations. The BJP raised the issue in a series of pointed questions to the AAP. “Why did Atishi not take possession of the house for three months? ED and CBI are investigating Sheesh Mahal, the den of corruption. The condition for allotment of the house was that Atishi would cooperate with the investigating agencies. But she deliberately did not take possession of the house so that the house remains closed, obstructing the work of the investigating agencies,” the BJP continued in its statement.

This latest controversy surrounding the Delhi CM’s residence comes as the city prepares for the highly anticipated Delhi Assembly Elections. The BJP has now stepped up its criticism of AAP, accusing the ruling party of engaging in corruption while failing to meet the needs of Delhi’s citizens during a public health crisis.

The AAP has yet to formally respond to the latest BJP allegations. However, this new attack is sure to add fuel to the already heated political battle in the capital as both parties look to sway voters ahead of the elections.
