New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday after a tense standoff between AAP leaders and Delhi Police outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence. The incident unfolded when Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh attempted to march to the CM’s bungalow to challenge the BJP’s allegations regarding the lavish renovations, which they have termed the “Sheesh Mahal.”
BJP leaders quickly condemned the confrontation, calling it a “clear display of anarchy” and accusing AAP of undermining law and order. Sudhanshu Trivedi, BJP MP, criticized AAP’s actions and said, “The reality of the monument of corruption is coming before the people… The sequence of events unfolding today and the characteristics being showcased by AAP MP Sanjay Singh and Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, no matter what they do, they will not be able to save Arvind Kejriwal’s museum of corruption, the ‘Sheesh Mahal’… Whatever they have done today is a clear display of anarchy.”
The stand-off began when Bharadwaj and Singh attempted to march to the Chief Minister’s official bungalow to refute the BJP’s repeated claims of corruption regarding the residence’s expensive renovations. They were blocked by Delhi Police personnel, who had been deployed outside the residence, preventing them from entering the premises.
“We came here to conclude this argument of ‘tera ghar, mera ghar’. We said that the PM residence and CM residence should both be shown to the people. So, we came here,” Bharadwaj explained after being stopped by police officers.
The clash is part of the ongoing political battle over the renovation of Kejriwal’s residence, which has sparked a bitter dispute between the AAP and BJP. While AAP leaders have consistently denied the corruption claims, the BJP continues to target the Delhi CM, alleging lavish spending on the residence during the COVID-19 pandemic when public resources were scarce.
This latest confrontation marks a fresh escalation in the war of words between the two parties ahead of the crucial Delhi Assembly elections. The BJP is expected to use this standoff to further accuse AAP of sowing chaos and undermining authority, while AAP continues to defend its leader and attempt to shift the focus back to the BJP’s own track record.
