The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a three-line whip to all its Members of Parliament (MPs) in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, directing them to be present in the Parliament on Saturday, February 10. The whip comes ahead of crucial discussions and legislative proceedings scheduled for that day in both Houses.
The whip, issued separately for the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, emphasizes the importance of the legislative agenda slated for Saturday. It urges all BJP MPs to be present throughout the day and extend their support to the government’s stance on the proposed bills and discussions.
One of the key items on the agenda is the tabling and discussion of a nearly 60-page White Paper, presented in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The White Paper sheds light on various aspects of governance and policy decisions, offering insights into the government’s approach and performance.
According to the White Paper, the UPA government, which came to power in 2004, veered away from crucial reforms initiated by the previous BJP-led NDA government. It alleges that the UPA government failed to capitalize on the strong foundation laid by its predecessor and points to shortcomings in various sectors, particularly in defence.
The document highlights issues such as corruption and scandals in defence procurement, which it claims compromised India’s defence preparedness during the UPA regime. It accuses the government of delaying critical acquisitions, including artillery, anti-aircraft guns, fighter aircraft, submarines, and essential equipment upgrades, citing these delays as detrimental to national security.
The White Paper aims to provide a comprehensive assessment of the UPA government’s governance and policy decisions, offering insights into the challenges faced and the path forward envisioned by the current government. It sets the stage for informed debates and discussions in the Parliament, guiding lawmakers in their deliberations on crucial matters affecting the nation’s development and security.
