Patna: With the Election Commission of India (ECI) releasing the schedule for the Bihar Assembly elections 2025, political parties are racing against time to finalise their seat-sharing arrangements. However, both the ruling NDA and the opposition Mahagathbandhan are facing hurdles, delaying final agreements.
Within the NDA, tensions are rising as smaller allies demand more seats than what the BJP is willing to offer. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), led by Union Minister Chirag Paswan, is pushing to contest 40–50 seats, while the BJP has proposed 20–25 constituencies. Similarly, Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) is seeking at least 15 seats but has been offered only seven, creating a significant roadblock for the ruling coalition.
The opposition camp is also grappling with similar issues. The Congress has remained firm on contesting 70 seats, while the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has offered 52–55 seats, citing its low success rate in the 2020 Bihar elections. Meanwhile, smaller allies like Mukesh Sahani’s Vikassheel Insaan Party and the Left parties are demanding additional seats, complicating negotiations further.
