New Delhi: Bihar, which is set to go to the polls later this year, has been given a significant boost in the Union Budget 2025, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1st. The budget included announcements aimed at improving the state’s infrastructure and agricultural growth.

Sitharaman revealed that Greenfield airports will be established in Bihar, enhancing the state’s air travel capabilities. She further emphasized the expansion of Patna Airport and the development of a brownfield airport in Bihta to cater to the growing demands of air travel.

The budget also focuses on improving the agricultural landscape, with financial support being allocated for the Western Kosi Canal ERM project in Bihar’s Mithilanchal region. This initiative will benefit farmers cultivating over 50,000 hectares of land in the region.

Food processing activities in Bihar are set to get a boost with the strengthening of the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Management, designed to enhance local food processing capacities.

The UDAN scheme, which has already connected 88 ports and airports, will be expanded with a revamped version, aiming to reach 120 new destinations. The scheme will facilitate the transportation of four crore passengers over the next decade, with an emphasis on improving connectivity in hilly and northeastern regions, alongside promoting helipads and smaller airports.

With Assembly elections approaching in Bihar, these initiatives are likely to play a significant role in the development agenda for the state in the coming months.
