Guwahati, October 24:
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to uncovering the truth behind the death of iconic singer Zubeen Garg, assuring that every possible measure will be taken to ensure justice.

“What will I gain by blaming anyone? My only goal is to ensure justice. The Assam government will take every necessary step — even if it means going to Singapore — to find the truth,” CM Sarma said during a press conference in Guwahati. “The BJP’s stand is clear: justice will prevail.”

Condemns disrespect at Zubeen Garg memorial

CM Sarma expressed disapproval over reports that some individuals allegedly poured wine on Garg’s memorial, calling the act “shameful.” Without naming anyone, he accused certain Left-leaning groups of attempting to distort the late singer’s image and beliefs.

“Zubeen Garg was a devoted follower of Lord Shiva — he even had a tattoo of Mahadev. Yet some Leftists are trying to portray him as a non-believer by misusing a dialogue from Kanchenjunga, where he said he had no race, religion, or caste,” Sarma noted.

‘Zubeen was deeply spiritual,’ says CM

Reiterating Garg’s spiritual roots, Sarma clarified that the cremation was conducted as per Hindu rituals, in line with the singer’s personal beliefs.

“Zubeen himself had said he worshipped Lord Shiva. Twisting his words is nothing but an attempt to undermine Sanatan Dharma,” the CM said.

Calls for open debate on misinformation

Criticising those spreading false narratives, Sarma added, “I stayed silent out of respect for his family. But now that a month has passed since his death, I am ready for an open debate with anyone trying to politicize his legacy.”

The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid growing public demand for a transparent investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death, which has sparked intense social and political debate in Assam.
