New Delhi: Former Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday asserted that the public has lost faith in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), adding that Congress has positioned itself for the future by contesting the Delhi elections alone.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Gehlot refuted AAP’s allegations that Congress played a role in its defeat in the Delhi elections. He labeled the claims as “baseless” and instead accused AAP of harming Congress in multiple states.
“The allegations leveled by Aam Aadmi Party against Congress for making them lose in Delhi are completely baseless. In fact, AAP has made Congress lose in many states where they had no base but contested elections only to cut Congress’ votes,” Gehlot said.
He pointed out that in Gujarat, Goa, and Uttarakhand—where Congress was in a strong position against BJP—AAP’s entry into the fray led to a division of votes, ultimately benefiting the BJP. He further alleged that many AAP candidates who won or lost later joined other parties, including the BJP.
Gehlot emphasized that by contesting independently in Delhi, Congress has paved the way for its future role.
“I am confident that in the coming days, the Congress will play the role of the main opposition in Delhi and will prepare the background for the upcoming elections. The public has now lost faith in the Aam Aadmi Party,” he added.
