New Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hit out at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday, questioning whether the UP CM should take responsibility for repairing the law and order situation in Delhi. Kejriwal’s sharp response came after Yogi Adityanath criticized the law and order situation in the national capital during his recent visit.

Kejriwal, addressing the media, stated that Yogi’s remarks about Delhi’s law and order were misplaced, asserting that the responsibility for maintaining law and order in Delhi lies with the Central government. “Yogi ji came to Delhi today and raised questions on the law and order situation. He said he fixed the law and order in UP, but I would like to remind him that Delhi’s law and order comes under the Central government,” Kejriwal said.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader continued by acknowledging the concerns over Delhi’s law and order but pointing out the unique governance structure in the capital. “I agree with Yogi ji that Delhi’s law and order is very bad. Over 11 gangsters have captured the entire city. Firing is happening on the streets. Women can’t step out of their homes,” Kejriwal added.

Kejriwal also took aim at the political moves surrounding his personal security. “The removal of my security by the Punjab Police is politics in its entirety. I am sorry that someone’s personal safety has been put in the hands of politics,” he said, further adding that his safety should not be used as a political tool.

Kejriwal’s remarks came in response to a series of accusations by Yogi Adityanath. On Thursday, CM Yogi had accused the AAP government of instigating riots in Delhi in 2020, allegedly with the help of “Bangladeshi infiltrators.” Speaking at a public gathering in Janakpuri, Yogi claimed that AAP councillors and officials collaborated with illegal migrants to create chaos and violence during the riots.

Yogi also urged Delhi voters to elect a “double-engine government” like in BJP-ruled states, claiming that it would lead to a cleaner environment and better governance. “If you look at the states where the double-engine government of the Bharatiya Janata Party is in power, you will find a clean environment. Form a double-engine government in Delhi to get basic amenities and move towards making Delhi Indraprastha again,” Yogi said.
