Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took a strong stance against the Samajwadi Party (SP) during a public rally on January 24 for the Milkipur Assembly constituency by-polls. Speaking at the rally in Harringtonganj market, near Palia intersection in Ayodhya, CM Yogi accused the SP of promoting mafias during their time in power and now opposing the globally significant Mahakumbh Mela, being held in Prayagraj.

“Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia once said that anyone who gets caught up in the pursuit of wealth is not a true socialist. Today’s socialists are only entangled in property matters; their flags used to be planted everywhere on vacant plots. Their flags were meant to protect criminals and mafias. While the country and the world are being drawn towards Prayagraj for the Mahakumbh, the president of the Samajwadi Party is engaged in daily defamation regarding the Mahakumbh,” CM Yogi remarked.

The comments came as the Chief Minister addressed voters ahead of the crucial by-election. For the Milkipur by-polls, the Samajwadi Party has fielded Ajit Prasad, the son of SP leader Awadhesh Prasad, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Chandrabhan Paswan for the seat.

Awadhesh Prasad, the Samajwadi Party MP, exuded confidence that his party would win the Milkipur by-polls. Speaking to the media, he claimed that the people had already decided to support the SP and make history with a victory. “The Samajwadi Party is winning with full strength. The public has taken this election in their hands and has made up their mind to make the Samajwadi Party and Ajit Prasad win, making history. That history will be one of change,” Prasad said.

Meanwhile, BJP leader and Vice Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Women’s Commission, Aparna Yadav, stressed the importance of the by-poll and appealed to voters to come out and vote. “This is an important election. The Bharatiya Janata Party works hard every day. We keep our workers ready for elections 365 days a year. Our communication with the public is very good. I would appeal to everyone to come and vote. We will win,” she said.
