New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday lauded the AAP-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for approving a budget provision of ₹800 crore to regularise 12,000 contractual employees. Kejriwal declared that “only AAP” could deliver on such demands, cementing the party’s commitment to workers’ rights.

“Great news for 12,000 temporary employees of Delhi Municipal Corporation. The Aam Aadmi Party government in the MCD has fulfilled their years-old demand by making a provision of ₹800 crores in the budget,” Kejriwal posted on X. AAP leader and MCD election in-charge Durgesh Pathak also congratulated the employees on their permanent status.

Delhi Mayor Mahesh Kumar Khichi announced the budget allocation, using the occasion to launch a scathing attack on the BJP, alleging that the party could not tolerate a Dalit mayor leading the corporation. The MCD session reportedly turned chaotic, with physical altercations that left AAP councillors injured.

“The BJP, unable to digest a Dalit Mayor’s leadership, turned the House into a battleground—resorting to chaos and physical altercations,” AAP said in a statement. “For two years, the BJP has done everything to stall proceedings, but AAP remains focused on delivering for Delhi’s people.”
