Raipur: In a decisive blow to Naxal insurgency, security forces eliminated 22 Naxals in two separate encounters in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur and Kanker districts on Wednesday (March 20). The intense operation underscores the government’s aggressive push to eradicate Left Wing Extremism from the region.

The first encounter took place in Bijapur, where security forces engaged with Naxals in the Gangaloor police station area along the border of Bijapur and Dantewada districts. The gunfight, which broke out around 7:00 AM, resulted in the deaths of 18 Naxals. During the operation, a jawan from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) lost his life. Firearms and explosives were recovered from the site, indicating the scale of Naxal activity in the region.

Simultaneously, another encounter occurred in Kanker district, where security forces neutralized four more Naxals. The search operations in both districts are still underway, with security personnel sweeping the dense forests to ensure no remaining insurgents escape.

This major crackdown follows a series of intensified efforts by the security forces and the central government’s zero-tolerance policy against Naxalism. Recently, 17 Naxals surrendered in Bijapur, and in February, 18 were arrested with a large cache of explosives.
