Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal found himself in the spotlight once again as he appeared before the Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday, representing himself and making startling allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) amidst his ongoing custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

In a dramatic courtroom scene, Kejriwal asserted that Hyderabad-based businessman P Sarath Chandra Reddy had purportedly donated electoral bonds worth Rs 55 crore to the BJP, suggesting a nexus between the ruling party and financial irregularities. He claimed to possess evidence implicating the BJP in a racket and maintained his innocence in the case, asserting that he was falsely embroiled in the matter.

“We are not opposed to the ED remand. The agency can have my custody for as long as they want,” Kejriwal declared defiantly before the judge, signaling his readiness to face the legal proceedings head-on.

The backdrop of Kejriwal’s court appearance is the Delhi liquor policy case, which has been under scrutiny since June 2023 when Sarath Reddy turned approver, shedding light on alleged irregularities. Kejriwal has vehemently labeled his arrest by the ED as a “political conspiracy” aimed at undermining his party’s credibility, emphasizing that no court has found him guilty.

Accompanied by his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, and son, the Delhi Chief Minister arrived at the Rouse Avenue Court amidst a flurry of media attention and political scrutiny. Their presence underscored the gravity of the situation as Kejriwal prepared to defend himself against the charges levied by the probe agency.

The ED’s arrest of Kejriwal on March 21 stems from allegations of money laundering linked to the Delhi excise policy of 2022, which purportedly facilitated kickbacks to AAP leaders and favored individuals known as the “South Group.” The ED’s claims are rooted in a report submitted by Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, alleging procedural deficiencies and financial losses to the exchequer.

Kejriwal’s decision to represent himself in court signals a bold move in the face of mounting legal challenges and political scrutiny. As the courtroom drama unfolds, all eyes are on the Delhi Chief Minister as he fights to clear his name and salvage his political reputation amidst swirling allegations and controversy.
