Mumbai: Veteran Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan expressed heartfelt gratitude towards his fans in an emotional blog post on Sunday, calling them his “life support” and describing their love as unconditional and eternal. The actor, who has upheld his Sunday ritual of greeting fans outside his residence Jalsa in Mumbai for decades, shared glimpses of yet another overwhelming gathering of admirers.

Taking to his blog, the 81-year-old actor wrote, “This love and attention that you give me… that the people of this land give me… has been my life support. It has been unconditional and filled only with emotion and love.” He also shared photos of himself waving and folding his hands in front of the crowd gathered outside Jalsa.

Reflecting on the difficult times in his life and career, Bachchan noted how his fans have always stood by him. “Through the times of despair and tribulations… through the years of setbacks… through undeserved accusations… you have all believed and stood by me. What can I ever say… except a huge debt of love that I shall never be able to repay. NEVER!” he wrote.

Quoting a verse from Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s celebrated poem Madhushala, Amitabh said he doesn’t need the wine or the goblet to feel intoxicated — he becomes overwhelmed just by hearing the words. In a poetic tribute to his fans, he added, “You are my Madhushala. You, who come every Sunday to the gates of Prateeksha and Jalsa, since 1982 — you are the soul of my Madhushala.”

The actor’s tradition of greeting fans every Sunday began after his recovery from a near-fatal injury during the shooting of Coolie in 1982. That moment, he says, marked a turning point in his bond with the public.

On the work front, Amitabh Bachchan was last seen in Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin, and also appeared in the Tamil action drama Vettaiyan, alongside Rajinikanth, directed by T.J. Gnanavel.
