Patna: Political tremors have hit the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar just ahead of the Assembly elections, as rising tensions over seat-sharing prompted Union Home Minister Amit Shah to call Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) chief Upendra Kushwaha to Delhi for urgent talks.

Kushwaha, who had planned to hold a crucial meeting with his party members at the RLM office in Patna today, postponed the meeting following the summons from Delhi. Sources said the BJP top brass is now making last-minute efforts to prevent a public fallout within the alliance.

In his brief statement before leaving for Delhi, Kushwaha said he hoped the matter would be resolved through dialogue.

“I am going to Delhi. Some pondering needs to be done on the decisions that are being made in the NDA. I’m hopeful that everything will be fine,” Kushwaha told reporters.

The friction reportedly revolves around the Mahua Assembly seat, which was initially believed to be allotted to Kushwaha’s party. However, fresh reports suggest it may now go to Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) — a move that has not gone down well with the RLM chief.

According to media reports, Kushwaha is keen on fielding his son, Deepak Prakash Kushwaha, from Mahua and has already begun consultations with his supporters.

The late-night drama escalated on Tuesday when Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Nityanand Rai, along with Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and Minister Nitin Naveen, visited Kushwaha’s residence in Patna. The closed-door meeting, which reportedly stretched past 2 am, ended without any breakthrough.

None of the BJP leaders spoke to the media after the meeting, leaving the political chatter buzzing. Kushwaha, visibly displeased, later told reporters:

“Nothing is well in NDA.”
