Kolkata: BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya has accused the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government of fostering communal violence after an alleged attack on Hindus celebrating Holi in Birbhum. Taking to social media platform X, Malviya claimed that under Banerjee’s rule, West Bengal is increasingly resembling Bangladesh in terms of religious tensions.

The incident reportedly took place during the Purnima and Holi celebrations in Anaipur village under the Kirnahar police station in the Nanur Assembly constituency. Malviya alleged that a local Trinamool Congress (TMC) Panchayat member led a violent attack on Hindus who were chanting “Jai Shri Ram” during the festivities. A video circulated online purportedly shows attackers questioning the celebrants, asking, “How dare you raise this slogan?”

Despite the presence of law enforcement, Malviya claimed that the police did not prevent the violence but instead protected the attackers. He also pointed to videos in which Hindus claimed they were assaulted while the police stood by.

Malviya further criticized the alleged misuse of internet restrictions in the state, questioning why services were suspended during ongoing examinations. Citing the Supreme Court’s ruling in Anuradha Bhasin vs. Union of India, which declared indefinite internet shutdowns illegal, he demanded an explanation from Mamata Banerjee on what justified the suspension.

He accused Mamata Banerjee of engaging in vote bank politics and warned that the BJP would not allow her to “shred the social fabric of West Bengal.” Concluding his post, Malviya declared, “She must GO!” The allegations have intensified political tensions in the state, with TMC leaders dismissing Malviya’s claims as an attempt to polarize voters ahead of elections.
