Faridabad: Al-Falah University in Haryana’s Faridabad on Wednesday (November 12) issued a strong clarification following reports linking it to the devastating car blast in Delhi that claimed 12 lives.
In an official statement, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhupinder Kaur Anand said the institution “has no connection with the people involved in the blast” and condemned the incident in the strongest terms.
“We are anguished by the unfortunate developments that took place and condemn the same… We have also learnt that two of our doctors have been detained by the Investigating Agencies,” the university said in its statement.
Reiterating its position, Dr. Anand stated that the university was being unfairly dragged into controversy.
“The University has no connection with the said persons apart from them working in their official capacities with the University… We strongly condemn and categorically deny all such false and defamatory allegations,” the statement added.
The university also addressed media reports alleging the presence of explosive materials within its premises, calling them “completely baseless.”
“No such chemical or material, as alleged by certain platforms, is being used, stored, or handled within the University premises. The University laboratories are used solely and exclusively for the academic and training requirements of MBBS students and other authorised courses,” the statement read.
The clarification came two days after the explosion near Red Fort. The university came under the spotlight after two of its professors, Dr. Mujammil Shakeel and Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather, were arrested in connection with a 2,900-kg explosive haul. According to reports, the suspected suicide bomber, Dr. Umar Muhammad Nabi — believed to be a close aide of Shakeel — had allegedly parked the white Hyundai i20 used in the blast inside the Al-Falah Medical College campus for nearly 11 days.
