Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party leaders hit back after Om Prakash Rajbhar predicted a major political split within the party.

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav has accused the Uttar Pradesh government of negligence amid reports of fake cough syrup being circulated across the state. Sharing findings from a private organization on his official social media, Yadav claimed that counterfeit syrup is reaching hospitals, jails, and homes “under the government’s nose,” while the state Health Department remains silent.

He questioned who benefits from this silence, hinting that politically connected individuals might be protecting those behind the illegal trade. Calling the scandal a “poisonous scam,” Yadav demanded a high-level judicial investigation and strict punishment for all responsible parties. He further alleged, “BJP’s corruption is now endangering lives,” terming the circulation of fake syrups a “crime against humanity.”

The allegations come in the wake of recent incidents in Madhya Pradesh, where children reportedly died after consuming contaminated syrups. In response, Uttar Pradesh’s health and food safety departments have ramped up inspections. Raids in multiple districts, including Lucknow, led to the seizure of large quantities of counterfeit syrups sold under fake brands. Authorities confirmed that the materials used in these products are harmful to human health, prompting further investigations.
