Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has issued a stern warning against those attempting to intimidate the Muslim community or create communal tensions in the state. Speaking at an Iftar gathering in Mumbai, Pawar emphasized unity and social harmony, assuring the Muslim community of his unwavering support.
“If anyone dares to intimidate our Muslim brothers and sisters or tries to create communal discord, they will not be spared,” Pawar declared, reinforcing his commitment to maintaining peace in Maharashtra. He assured the gathering, “Your brother Ajit Pawar is with you.”
His remarks come in the wake of recent communal violence in Nagpur, where clashes broke out following rumors of religious books being burnt during a right-wing protest demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb. The situation quickly escalated, with stone pelting and confrontations with the police, prompting the imposition of curfew in several areas. However, authorities have since restored normalcy.
Pawar, who also handles Maharashtra’s finance portfolio, has been vocal about maintaining law and order and ensuring that communal harmony remains intact. His strong stance sends a clear message that the state government will take strict action against any attempts to incite violence or disrupt peace.
