Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP President Ajit Pawar has dissolved the Beed district unit of the party following a meeting with senior office bearers at his Mantralaya office on Tuesday. This decision comes in the wake of widespread criticism and controversy surrounding the brutal killing of Massajog Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh.
The killing has raised serious concerns within the NCP, especially after it was revealed that Vishnu Chate, the NCP’s Kej taluka president, is allegedly involved in the crime. Chate, who is currently in judicial custody and facing charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA), was found to have direct links to the killing. The revelation has put the party in a difficult position, leading to public uproar and calls for accountability.
This development also marks a significant blow to Dhananjay Munde, the NCP leader who has been managing the party’s affairs in Beed by appointing office bearers of his choice. Sources suggest that the police investigation could potentially expose more members of the NCP Beed unit if further cases related to the killing, including those involving Walmik Karad and others, are pursued.
Activists have raised alarms over the growing influence of party members involved in criminal activities, demanding a thorough probe into the matter. The dissolution of the Beed unit is seen as a move to distance the party from the controversy and avoid further political fallout.
