Mumbai : Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Thursday reaffirmed that the Koyna Dam project-affected people have made significant sacrifices for the development of Maharashtra, and it is the state government’s duty to ensure they are rehabilitated with alternative land and support.

He directed that all proposals regarding land allotment and rehabilitation for the project-affected persons, submitted by the District Collectors of Pune, Satara, Sangli, and Solapur, be verified without delay and forwarded to the Pune Divisional Commissioner by the end of this month. The Divisional Commissioner is expected to scrutinize these applications and, in the first fortnight of June, convene a meeting with the concerned organizations representing the affected people to expedite land distribution to all eligible beneficiaries.

“The complete rehabilitation of Koyna dam-affected families and their resettlement through land allotment has been pending for far too long. This must be addressed on priority,” said Pawar during a high-level review meeting held at Mantralaya.

He noted that a list of 310 eligible beneficiaries from Satara district and 215 from Sangli district has already been prepared, and the process of land allotment to these individuals should be completed on an urgent basis. District Collectors from the other regions were instructed to promptly examine the pending proposals under their jurisdiction and forward them to the Divisional Commissioner.

“The Divisional Commissioner can take decisions at their level. However, matters requiring intervention at the state level should be escalated immediately to the government. Timely decisions will be taken to resolve those,” assured the Deputy Chief Minister.

Also present were Shramik Mukti Dal President and activist Dr. Bharat Patankar, Chaitanya Dalvi from the Koyna Dam and Sanctuary-Affected Sangram Organisation, and other representatives of the project-affected, along with senior government officials.
