Mumbai: A major security alert unfolded on Friday when Air India flight AI 379, en route from Phuket to Delhi, was forced to make an emergency landing at Phuket International Airport following a bomb threat. The aircraft, which had 156 passengers on board, returned safely, and all passengers were reported unharmed.

Authorities in Thailand swiftly initiated emergency protocols upon receiving the threat, ensuring that the plane was grounded safely and all individuals onboard were evacuated without incident.

This comes on a day of heightened operational strain for the airline. Earlier in the morning, Air India’s London-bound flight AIC129 from Mumbai returned to its origin after remaining airborne for nearly three hours. The decision was made as a precaution, though specific details remain undisclosed.

In a related development, Air India confirmed it has either diverted or recalled 16 of its international flights due to growing tensions in West Asia, particularly between Israel and Iran. The closure of Iranian airspace has prompted rerouting for the safety of passengers and crew.

“Due to the emerging situation in Iran, the subsequent closure of its airspace and in view of the safety of our passengers, the following Air India flights are either being diverted or returning to their origin,” the airline said in a statement.
