Ahmedabad: In a significant move ahead of India’s bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games, land occupied by three ashrams, including one owned by rape convict Asaram Bapu, in Motera, Ahmedabad, is set to be acquired for the development of the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave and Olympic Village, as per a report by The Times of India.

The affected ashrams—Sant Shree Asaram Ashram, Bhartiya Seva Samaj, and Sadashiv Pragya Mandal—will be relocated to make way for world-class sports infrastructure near the Narendra Modi Stadium.

A three-member committee, led by the Ahmedabad municipal commissioner, has started the administrative process in accordance with the master plan for the sports enclave. The project, being designed by international consultancy firm Populous, is being executed with the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) and covers 650 acres, with 600 acres spanning Bhat, Motera, Koteshwar, and Sughad, while 50 acres are on the Sabarmati Riverfront.
