Madurai: Tamil actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay has been booked by police along with 10 others after chaos broke out at the party’s second state conference in Parapathi, Madurai district, on August 20. An FIR was registered following allegations of manhandling the crowd during the high-profile event that drew lakhs of supporters.

According to police reports, the incident occurred when Sarathkumar, a party worker, attempted to climb the ramp to reach the stage. He was allegedly pushed back forcefully by Vijay’s personal security staff and bouncers, leading him to fall and sustain a chest injury. Sarathkumar was immediately shifted for medical treatment. The complaint alleges that the handling by Vijay’s team was excessive and amounted to physical assault.

The conference itself was one of TVK’s biggest shows of strength since its formation, with organisers arranging seating for over 1.5 lakh people. Huge crowds began assembling in the early hours, many hoping to catch a glimpse of Vijay, whose political entry has already generated massive public enthusiasm across Tamil Nadu. Witnesses claim the sheer size of the crowd made management difficult, with frequent jostling near the barricades and the main stage area.

Following the complaint, police filed an FIR against Vijay and 10 others, including members of his security detail, under sections related to manhandling and causing hurt. Authorities confirmed that further investigation is underway, and statements from eyewitnesses as well as organisers are being collected.
