In the aftermath of a dramatic Haryana Rajya Sabha election marked by cross-voting, Congress leader and state in-charge BK Hariprasad has issued a stern warning to party MLAs, saying strict disciplinary action is inevitable.
The election turned into a high-voltage political battle, with several Congress MLAs allegedly cross-voting, nearly costing the party a crucial seat. Reports suggest at least five MLAs went against the party line, exposing deep internal divisions.
“Disciplinary Panel Will Decide”: Hariprasad
Reacting strongly, Hariprasad said the party’s disciplinary committee is examining the matter and will soon submit its report to the leadership.
“The party’s disciplinary committee will send its report to us, based on which AICC will act. An action will certainly be taken against the MLAs who cross-voted,” he said, making it clear that indiscipline will not be tolerated.
Sources indicate that show-cause notices may be issued to the accused MLAs, giving them an opportunity to explain their actions before further steps are taken.
Nail-Biting Election Exposes Cracks
The Haryana Rajya Sabha polls witnessed late-night drama, invalid votes, and cross-voting, making what was expected to be an easy win for Congress a close contest. Despite internal setbacks, the party managed to secure one seat, but the episode has raised serious concerns about unity within its ranks.
Political observers say the incident reflects ongoing factionalism within the state Congress unit, which could impact the party’s performance in upcoming elections.
Congress Signals Zero Tolerance
The Congress leadership has now signaled a zero-tolerance approach toward rebellion within the party. Leaders have warned that those who “betrayed” the party during the voting process will face consequences.
With tensions still high and internal accountability underway, the cross-voting episode has once again put the spotlight on discipline and cohesion within the Congress ahead of future political battles.
