Abhishek, Jyothi clinch gold in compound mixed pair at Asian Archery

Indian archers Abhishek Verma and Jyothi Surekha Vennam finished with the yellow metal in compound mixed event on last day taking the overall medal tally to seven here on Wednesday.

The Indian pair edged out rivals Yi-Hsuan Chen and Chieh-Luh Chen of Chinese Taipei 158-151. India finished the the event with one gold, two silver and four bronze. Earlier in the day Verma missed the chance of providing gold by just one point in the compound team event after losing to Korea 232-233.

The top-seeded Verma, Rajat Chauhan and Mohan Bhardwaj had to satisfy with silver. Defending their title in the compound women’s team event, Jyothi, Muskan Kirar and Priya Gurjar bowed down before Korean pairs losing 215-231.

Earlier India had won four bronze medals in the recurve events with Atanu Das leading from the front.

The men’s team have qualified for the Olympics from the World Championships while women’s will hope to secure Olympic quota from the continental championship with six places in line-up for Tokyo Olympics.-UNI
