New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament, Sanjay Singh, on Wednesday accused the police of detaining one of his party workers, Uday Gill, at the Mandir Marg police station “without any reason.” Singh, who arrived at the police station to seek clarification, took to social media platform X to express his concern, writing, “One of our workers, Uday, has been detained at the Mandir Marg police station without any reason. I am present at the police station.”
However, the official handle of the DCP New Delhi responded on X, clarifying the reason behind the detention. The post read, “He is detained as he was physically forcing people to come on a particular political party table along with his accomplice.”
The situation escalated when Singh accused BJP workers of obstructing AAP workers from sitting at the table near a polling booth. Singh posted, “BJP’s hooliganism at Tughlaq Lane booth is not allowing our workers to sit at the table.”
In response, the DCP New Delhi clarified that the extra table placed by AAP workers was in violation of the Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines. The post added, “There was an extra table and party symbol on table violating the ECI guideline. Therefore, the extra table and party symbol were removed.”
Speaking to ANI, AAP MP Singh continued to question the reasoning behind Gill’s detention, claiming that the police had not provided a clear explanation for the incident. Singh also alleged that false cases were being registered against AAP workers, further intensifying the ongoing political tensions.
Sanjay Singh called on the public to vote against what he described as “hooliganism” during the election period. The incident adds to the mounting tensions between the AAP and BJP, particularly in the midst of the high-stakes Delhi Assembly elections.
As the allegations continue to unfold, the political rivalry between the two parties over the fairness of the electoral process intensifies, with both sides accusing each other of attempting to influence voter behavior.
