Jalandhar: Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) functionary Lucky Oberoi was killed in a targeted shooting on Friday after unknown assailants opened fire on his vehicle in Jalandhar’s Model Town area, triggering panic and heightened security in the locality.

The attack took place near a prominent gurudwara when Oberoi was travelling in his Mahindra Thar. According to preliminary police findings, the attackers fired several rounds at close range, smashing the vehicle’s glass and leaving him critically wounded. Locals rushed to help as the sound of gunfire created chaos in the area.

Oberoi was immediately shifted to a private hospital, where doctors attempted to save him. However, he later succumbed to his injuries, officials confirmed.

Police Launch Manhunt, Area Sealed

Soon after the incident, senior police officials reached the spot and cordoned off the entire area. Multiple teams were formed to investigate the killing, and CCTV footage from nearby roads, shops, and residential complexes is being examined to trace the shooters and their escape route.

Police have not yet disclosed the motive behind the murder but stated that all possible angles, including political rivalry and personal enmity, are being investigated.

Political Background

Lucky Oberoi was an active AAP leader in the Jalandhar region and closely associated with the party’s organisational work in Jalandhar Cantonment. He was known to be a key supporter and aide of AAP leader Rajwinder Thiara, who serves as the constituency in-charge.

His wife, Simarjot Kaur, had earlier contested the municipal corporation elections on an AAP ticket, though she was unsuccessful.

Shockwaves Across Political Circles
