New Delhi: In a significant development ahead of the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has announced its support for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), with SP chief Akhilesh Yadav joining AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal for a joint roadshow in the Rithala constituency on January 30. This alliance marks the growing cooperation between the two parties, as SP, along with Trinamool Congress, Shiv Sena UBT, and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), extends its support to AAP in Delhi.

The roadshow, which will feature prominent SP leaders including Yadav and Kairana MP Iqra Hasan, is expected to energize AAP’s campaign ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, which will take place in a single phase on February 5, with vote counting on February 8.

Though both AAP and Congress, key members of the INDIA alliance, contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections together in Delhi, they are contesting the upcoming assembly elections separately. This split has led to a division of support within the alliance, with major allies like SP backing AAP.

Akhilesh Yadav, however, stressed that the INDIA alliance remains intact. He recalled that when the alliance was formed, it was agreed that regional parties would receive support where they were strongest.

The Congress party, which ruled Delhi for 15 consecutive years, has faced setbacks in the last two assembly elections and has failed to secure any seats. In contrast, AAP dominated the 2020 elections, winning 62 out of 70 seats, with the BJP securing only eight seats.
