New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Monday urged voters to be mindful of their choices, emphasizing that their decisions during the upcoming assembly elections will impact their lives for the next five years. She highlighted the significant strides made by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in education, which she claimed has transformed Delhi’s education system.
Addressing a public gathering in Delhi’s Vishwas Nagar Assembly Constituency, where she was supporting AAP candidate Deepak Singhal, Atishi stressed the importance of voting based on the track record of the ruling party. “The election time is such that we have to decide our vote very carefully, as the vote influences our lives for the next five years. If we make a mistake, then, no matter how much we regret it for the next five years, our decision cannot be reversed. One who works must get a vote,” she said.
Atishi further praised AAP’s efforts in the education sector, noting that the Delhi government now spends 25 percent of its budget on education. She pointed out that government schools, which were once in poor condition, have been transformed, with significant improvements in infrastructure, including better facilities for girls.
Earlier on Monday, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal also announced 15 guarantees for the Delhi elections, promising to fulfill them within the next five years if the party is voted back into power.
The Delhi Assembly elections will take place in a single phase on February 5, with the vote counting scheduled for February 8. A total of 699 candidates are competing for the 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly.
The Congress party, which ruled Delhi for 15 consecutive years, has struggled in recent elections, failing to secure any seats in the past two assembly polls. In contrast, AAP has dominated the 2015 and 2020 elections, winning 67 and 62 seats, respectively, while BJP secured only three and eight seats in those elections.
