Pune: Union Home Minister and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Sunday announced that the Centre would soon set up a national university offering cooperative training courses with its affiliated colleges in different parts of the country.

In his key-note address at the convocation ceremony of Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM) here, the Cooperation Minister added that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government was also coming up with a new cooperative policy soon in a bid to expand business in the cooperation sector.

He argued for the need for implementing a cooperative formation plan for the next 25 years in order to expand business. Shah said that there were many opportunities in the cooperative sector before students, who were today stepping out of these institutes with degrees.

“We will very soon set up a university for cooperative management courses…It will be a national university with its colleges located in states affiliating themselves with this university,” Shah said.
