Indian Navy recovers mortal remains of 23 more crew members of Barge P-305

On the fifth day of its search and rescue operation off Mumbai coast, Indian Navy today recovered the mortal remains of 23 more crew members of the ill-fated Barge P-305 that went adrift following cyclone Tauktae on Monday.

Subsequently, the death toll has risen to 51 while 24 people still remain missing.

A defence press release has informed that INS Beas has entered Mumbai’s harbour with the mortal remains while other ships and aircrafts continue the search and rescue mission.

All survivors and 49 mortal remains were brought to Mumbai.

Indian Navy has so far rescued 188 crew members of Barge P-305 and two members of Tug ‘Varapradha’ besides 137 crew members of GAL Constructions that had also run aground off the Mumbai coast following the cyclonic fury.

Besides INS Beas, INS Kochi, Kolkata, Betwa, Talwar, Teg, P8I maritime surveillance aircraft, Chetak, ALH and Seaking helicopters are involved in the Search and Rescue operations.
