Delhi: Just days after the death of a young software engineer in Noida, another tragic road accident has shaken Delhi. A biker lost his life after falling into an uncovered pit in the Janakpuri area, raising serious questions about road safety and negligence during construction work in the capital.

The deceased has been identified as Kamal, an assistant manager working with HDFC Bank. He lived in Kailashpuri and was returning home from his office in Rohini late on Thursday night. Kamal was riding his motorcycle and was fully equipped with safety gear, including a helmet, riding jacket, and gloves.

According to police officials, Kamal stayed in touch with his family during his commute. However, when he failed to reach home even after several hours, his worried family members stepped out to search for him. Despite checking nearby routes and areas, they could not locate him.

The incident came to light early Friday morning when the police received information around 7:30 am. When officers reached the spot, they found Kamal’s body at the bottom of a deep pit along with his motorcycle. Images from the scene later surfaced on social media, showing the severity of the accident.

Initial investigation suggests that the pit was dug as part of ongoing work by the Delhi Jal Board. Reports indicate that the pit was left open and poorly marked, making it difficult for commuters to notice, especially at night. The accident occurred in an area that falls under the assembly constituency of Delhi Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood.

Kamal’s family is devastated and has demanded strict action against the departments responsible for leaving the road in a dangerous condition. Police have registered a case and said further investigation is underway to fix responsibility.

The incident has triggered political reactions as well. Former AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj criticised the Delhi government, saying authorities have failed to learn lessons even after recent fatal accidents linked to open pits and construction negligence.
