Mumbai: At least 15 people were injured and rescued and around 70-80 people were feared to be trapped under debris after a multi-storey residential building in Kajalpura area Mahad in Raigad district collapsed on Monday evening. According to the information received, there were 45 flats in the five-storey building.
Three teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been rushed to the accident spot in Mahad in Raigad district which is around a four-hour drive from Mumbai.
While speaking to TheNews21, Nidhi Chaudhary, collector of Raigad said, “It was a five floored building which was only 10 years old. There were 40 flats in the building. As per the information received the top three floors have collapsed. 15 people have been rescued and rushed to the hospital till now and the further rescue operation is still going on.”
She further said, ” we have deployed three fire brigade which we have in our district. We have also roped in the fire brigade and quick rescue vehicles from Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and the municipal council.”
The fire brigade and quick rescue teams from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and CIDCO have been called here. Three NDRF teams have been called for the rescue operation.
“We are on for the rescue operation the only difficulty is its night and we are praying that it should not rain. The building was not in the dilapidated condition its only 10 years old, its definitely the case of poor construction and the design flaws. We are getting the details about the builder and definitely, action will be taken against the builder because the loss of life cannot be taken lightly”, said district collector, Nidhi Chaudhary.
