Mumbai: In the sharpest attack against the leaders at the helm of affairs in Bihar, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, Rohit Pawar has said that it is “disappointing” to see the return of migrant labourers to Maharashtra as they did not find any employment opportunity back home.
After the coronavirus induced lockdown, swarms of labourers, who were left jobless had undertaken reverse migration to their home states from various parts of Maharashtra. With no transportation facility available, some had even embarked on foot along with their other family members to cover hundreds of kilometres to reach their native places.
In a Facebook post, NCP legislator from Karjat-Jamkhed, Rohit Pawar, the grand nephew of NCP patriarch Sharad Pawar while ridiculing the return of these labourers says, it tells the “true story” of development in Bihar.
Without naming Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and deputy CM, Sushil Kumar Modi, Rohit said, “It is unfortunate that the Bihar government talks about development only for their election benefits”.
Rohit’s no holds barred attack against the political leadership of Bihar comes after the Maharashtra Government and Mumbai police, which was probing the suicide case of Sushant Singh Rajput were left red-faced after the Supreme Court’s ruling to hand over the probe to Central Investigation Agency (CBI).
Referring to a news report, Rohit said that there are no proper hospitals in Bihar and the same was bemoaned by the deputy chief minister of that state by blaming it on previous governments who ruled the state. “I had read the statement of Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar who mentioned that they do not have proper hospital facilities during the time of Covid-19 because the previous governments had done nothing for the state.
“The lack of development and unemployment opportunities has forced the youth and labourers to leave their state and come to Maharashtra in search of work. Many people from Bihar have mentioned this to me that there is no development or business growth in their state”, Rohit alleged.
Rohit said that he has been observing that the politicians of Bihar indulge in playing the blame-game and refrain to talk about development. “If half of the effort which they have vested in criticizing each other would have been put for the development of the state, the youth there would have received employment. Healthy competition should always be welcomed and that competition should be for development”. he said.
Highlighting the immense contribution of Maharashtra in the country’s development, he said, “We all dream of India being a developed nation but this dream cannot be achieved just by the contributions of few states like Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab. It has to be collective participation by each state and only then India truly can be a developed nation”.
He said Bihar on the development metrics is way behind if compared to Maharashtra’s current development status. “I fail to control my laughter when I read the leaders of Bihar government talk about the competency of other states police machinery and law & order.”
Hailing the people of Bihar, he said they are known for their intelligence, hard work, and willfulness, however, irrespective of all these, Bihar has always been lacking behind in development which makes us believe that it is not the youth, but the politics which pulls back the state always.
“I appeal to all the people of Bihar especially the youth to come forward and think about how can the situation be changed. Only if you change your present you will have a bright future”, he exhorted.
In a veiled attack he said, politics is meant for the betterment of people and welfare of the state but people have seen the low level of politics which is being played by the Bihar government, in a subtle reference to the actor Sushant Singh Rajput death case.
“This is the reason why people have not been able to progress in Bihar for the past many years. We all have seen many videos and heard the news of how did the people of Maharashtra helped & cared for the migrant workers of Bihar while they were leaving for their state during the Covid-19, but the Bihar government never spoke about it,” he said.
The (Bihar) government, also did not look into the problems of these workers which they had to face after they reached back, instead, they are busy playing dirty politics over an unfortunate incident. It is no surprise that only Bihar government can do so, he said.
Saying that he firmly believes that every individual has the right to get employment in the state they are born, he said, if the politicians themselves fail to create job opportunities how will it ever be possible.
“Time and again I fail to understand why can’t the Bihar Government show the kind of courage which we the leaders of Maharashtra possess for the development of our state,” he added.
Maha-Bihar scrimmage far from being new
It is not for the first time that the slugfest over the handing of the probe of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput the tussle between the leaders from Maharashtra and Bihar has come to the fore. In the past too, such mudslinging between the leaders of two states has been witnessed, more glaringly when the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) launched a tirade against the migrants and taxi-drivers from Bihar way back in 2007-2008.
When MNS was in infancy, its leader Raj Thackeray while espousing on the cause of Marathi-speakers had alleged that the people from Bihar who are migrating to Maharashtra has been taking way the jobs rendering the local youth unemployed.
On numerous occasions, Raj Thackeray in his public rallies had launched a diatribe against leaders from Bihar, namely former chief minister and RJD leader, Lalu Prasad Yadav over the celebration of Chatth Puja, which he alleged was the show of strength by the people from Bihar in Mumbai.
