Mumbai: The results of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams of the Maharashtra state board exams saw a 15-year-best leap of passing percentage of 95.30. Chairperson of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Shakuntala Kale stated that the leap in results had been due to marking systems of oral, practicals and internal markings that helped in overall evaluation of student’ skills.

Soon after the results were announced, the Sena scion Aditya Thackeray tweeted that reinstatement of internal assessments and markings had improved scores of students. Yuva Sena core committee member Sainath Durge tweeted that scores had improved from last year’s passing percentage of 75.53% due to this marking system.

The youth wing of the Shiv Sena had been in the forefront last year on the internal marks issue following which the state issued a government resolution on August 9 allotting internal assessments in languages and Social Sciences.

About 5,75103 appeared for the Class X state board exams in March out of which 15,01105 students passed. About 53, 9373 students scored distinction (over 75% of marks), 55,0809 scored First Class (over 60% of marks), 33,0588 students scored Second Class (over 45%) and 80,335 students scored pass class (over 35% marks) in this examination. The exams were conducted in 60 subjects in eight different languages.

The Konkan division scored the best results among the nine divisional boards with a passing percentage of 98.77%, while Aurangabad fared the last with a passing percentage of 92%. About 37.04 % of the 22570 schools in the state had all their students clearing the exams. Even the repeaters students had a passing percentage of 75.86%, while the handicapped students had a passing % of 92.73%. Girls surpassed themselves from the boys by over 3.01% by scoring a pass percentage of 96.91%.

Kale stated that this year’s results were brought out in much difficult conditions due to the Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns and thanked all the stakeholders for their support. Many answer sheets were stuck up in schools due to lockdown and the state board had to use the postal system to get it to teachers and back for correction.

Though the Geography exam had to be cancelled to avoid Covid spread among students, the state agreed to grant average marks in that paper.
