Pune city ranked first in the country for buying new vehicles

Pune citizens prefer ownership vehicle than public transportation due to poor services.

Mumbai: After Mumbai, the most popular city in the state is Pune known for its progress when it comes to Information Technology (IT). It has now again come in news for a good reason. The IT city adjacent to financial capital of Maharashtra has topped in purchasing new vehicles in the last six months.

Due to pandemic coronavirus there was zero sale in the market for the last three months of April, May and Mid-June however as the state government announced unlock 1.0, the vehicle registration boomed suddenly. Pune city witnessed approximately 11,000 new vehicles registration after mid-June onwards. 

The citizens of Pune prefer less of public transport in comparison with the people of Mumbai. It is more of poor services and bad management by the local corporation body of the city. Thus they keep on buying their own vehicles for the purpose of traveling. The city ranked first in the country for purchasing new vehicles in the last six months. More than 70,000 vehicles have been registered with the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) in the last six months. 

The city Pune has beaten Lucknow, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Kanpur to become the top city for new vehicle registration. The Pune RTO (MH12) has registered 74,016 and Pimpri RTO (MH14) has registered 49,337 vehicles from January to July 25.

At present, 1444 RTOs are operational in the country and out of this, 1234 have been registered with the Ministry of Road and Transport website ‘Parivahan’. According to the website, 83.06 lakh new vehicles have been registered till now. Out of this, 63.58 lakh include two-wheelers, 9.75 lakh cars and 6.69 lakh are commercial vehicles.
