NEW DELHI: India will host the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in 2027, with Mumbai and Vadodara set to stage the six-team tournament from February 14 to 28, 2027. The Cricket Club of India (CCI) in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium will be the two venues for the new addition to the women’s international calendar. Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka will compete for the title. The tournament will be played in the T20I format and will follow a round-robin structure, with each team facing the other once. The top two teams at the end of the league stage will meet in the final on February 28.
The event was initially awarded to Sri Lanka but was shifted after Sri Lanka Cricket was asked to undertake reforms outlined by the International Cricket Council at its Annual Conference in July. India emerged as the replacement host after the ICC evaluated bids from Bangladesh, India and South Africa against its host-selection criteria. The tournament will add another marquee event to an increasingly busy women’s cricket calendar. The six participating teams qualified on the basis of their positions in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings at the July 6 cut-off.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah said the inaugural edition would give the women’s game another platform to grow. “The ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027 marks an exciting new chapter for women’s cricket,” Shah said, adding that the competition would bring together leading teams and create greater incentive for sides to improve their rankings and compete on the global stage. Shah also said the annual staging of a major ICC women’s event would help create greater momentum and consistency for players and fans. The ICC will announce the detailed schedule and ticketing information at a later date.
