Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has expressed solidarity with families affected by the devastating flash floods in Nepal, offering prayers for those still waiting for information about their loved ones.
Tendulkar shared his message on X on Thursday, acknowledging the emotional distress faced by families who remain uncertain about the safety of relatives caught in the disaster. He also praised the rescue personnel working in difficult conditions to locate and assist people affected by the floods.
“There is perhaps no greater uncertainty than not knowing whether someone you love is safe. My heart goes out to all the families affected by the devastating floods in Nepal, especially those still waiting for news. Praying for their loved ones and for the rescue teams working tirelessly to reach them,” Tendulkar wrote.
The former India batter’s message came as Nepal continued large-scale search, rescue and relief operations following severe flash floods that have caused extensive damage and loss of life.
84 Indians Rescued, 290 Still Uncontactable
India’s Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday that 84 Indian nationals had been rescued, while 290 others remained uncontactable amid the flood situation in Nepal.
According to the MEA’s latest update, 63 workers associated with the Trishuli-I project and 21 people from Tamil Nadu were among those rescued.
The Tamil Nadu group had travelled to Nepal for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, while the 63 rescued individuals were working on the Trishuli-I project.
The ministry said efforts were continuing to trace Indians who remained uncontactable and ensure their safety in areas affected by the floods.
Nepal Floods Leave Hundreds Dead
The disaster intensified after a major flash flood struck Nepal’s Rasuwa district on Wednesday morning. The powerful flow of water, mud, sediment and boulders swept through areas connected to the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems.
Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority reported that 359 bodies had been recovered, while 910 people remained missing or uncontactable.
The casualties were reported across eight districts. Chitwan recorded the highest number of recovered bodies at 132, followed by Nawalparasi East with 82, Gorkha with 30, Dhading with 33, Nuwakot with 28, Tanahun with 22, Rasuwa with 17 and Nawalparasi West with 15.
The flooding has also affected foreign nationals, with hundreds reported missing or out of contact as rescue agencies continue their operations.
