The dispute surrounding the alleged assault of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) activist Nishu Azad’s father during a protest at Jantar Mantar has taken a fresh turn, with Delhi Police agreeing to add the relevant legal provisions to the FIR.
Speaking at Parliament Street Police Station, Sanjay Azad, Nishu Azad’s father, said the police had assured the family that the accused would be arrested within 72 hours.
Sanjay Azad said, “Delhi Police have accepted our demand to include the relevant sections of the law in the FIR. The police have said that the accused will be arrested in 72 hours. We have full faith in the Delhi Police and the Constitution that the accused will be arrested.”
The development comes amid a continuing dispute over what happened during the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar. The case gained wider attention after claims made by influencer Swatantra Bharadwaj regarding the incident circulated publicly.
Swatantra Bharadwaj Calls Incident Self-Defence
In Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, Bharadwaj responded to criticism over his earlier podcast remarks in which he was accused of admitting to attacking Nishu Azad’s father.
Defending his actions, Bharadwaj said the incident should not be described as an attack, arguing that he acted to protect himself.
“What people are calling an attack was an act of self-defence. If I had not acted in self-defence, I…”
His statement comes as pressure mounts for action against those accused in connection with the Jantar Mantar incident.
Police Action Now Under Focus
The latest development has shifted attention towards the Delhi Police and whether the promised arrest will take place within the 72-hour period.
Sanjay Azad’s statement also indicates that the protesters and family members have accepted the police assurance for now, saying they continue to have faith in the police and the Constitution.
The controversy had earlier intensified after CJP supporters demanded stronger sections in the FIR and action against those they alleged were responsible for the violence.
With the relevant sections now reportedly being added to the FIR, the next key development will be whether Delhi Police arrest the accused within the timeframe communicated to the family.
The claims made by the individuals involved remain allegations, and the investigation and legal proceedings will determine the facts of the incident.
