‘Ram Temple Donation Scam Hurt Devotees’ Faith’: Congress Demands Supreme Court-Monitored Probe, Questions PM Modi’s Silence

The Congress on Saturday intensified its attack over the alleged embezzlement of donations meant for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, claiming the controversy has shaken the faith of millions of devotees. The party demanded a Supreme Court-monitored investigation, arguing that only an independent probe could reveal the full extent of the alleged irregularities.

Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal said the issue would be raised prominently during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament and accused the Centre of avoiding accountability over the matter.

According to Venugopal, the alleged misuse of donations offered by devotees is not merely a financial issue but one that directly affects religious faith. He questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had not publicly addressed the controversy despite its seriousness.”We are raising and will continue to raise the issue across the country. This loot has affected crores of believers in the country. But the PM and the Home Minister are silent on it. Only an SIT of Uttar Pradesh police has been constituted and the intention behind it is to save the actual culprits,” Venugopal said.

The Congress leader argued that a probe monitored by the Supreme Court was essential to ensure transparency and inspire public confidence in the investigation. He maintained that an inquiry conducted solely by state agencies would not be sufficient to answer the concerns being raised.

Venugopal further alleged that organisations associated with the Sangh Parivar had collected donations from devotees for the Ram Temple over several years and claimed that funds and valuables donated by the public had been misused. He also alleged that those managing the temple trust should be held accountable if any wrongdoing is established.

Launching a political attack on the BJP and RSS, Venugopal accused them of exploiting religious sentiments for electoral gains. He asserted that the controversy was not about politics for the Congress but about protecting the faith of devotees and ensuring accountability.”They are only interested in looting in the name of Hindus and dividing people for votes. This is not just a loot, but an attack on the faith of the devotees,” he alleged.

The Congress leader also questioned the silence of BJP leaders in Kerala over the issue and claimed similar concerns had surfaced regarding donations linked to other prominent temples. Reiterating the party’s demand, he said only a Supreme Court-supervised investigation could establish the truth and restore public trust.
