US President Donald Trump once again targeted Iran with sharp remarks during the Freedom 250 celebrations at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, claiming the country was now eager to negotiate after the recent conflict with the United States.
Speaking before a cheering crowd during the Independence Day event, Trump defended the military action taken by his administration and used the occasion to mock Tehran’s position following the hostilities.
‘We Gave Them A Week Off For A Funeral’
Referring to the recent conflict, Trump said, “We knocked the hell out of Iran. They’re dying to settle. They want to settle so badly. We gave them a week off for a funeral because we’re nice.” His remarks drew loud applause and laughter from the audience attending the national celebration.
Although he did not provide additional details, Trump maintained that Iran was now seeking a negotiated settlement after the military campaign.
Remarks Coincide With Iran’s National Mourning
Trump’s comments came as Iran continued state funeral ceremonies for former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The mourning events have brought together senior Iranian leaders, foreign delegations and thousands of people paying tribute during the official ceremonies in Tehran.
Military Action Defended Again
During his address, Trump repeated his defence of the US military operation against Iran, presenting it as a successful campaign that weakened Tehran’s position.
He also described the pause during Iran’s mourning period as a humanitarian gesture by Washington while insisting that the United States remained in a position of strength.
