Top-ranked duo dominate Round of 16 clashes as Durgesh Kandukuri stages a remarkable comeback to secure his place in the last eight
Mumbai: Top seeds Harshit Mahimkar and Akshat Raisurana delivered commanding performances to storm into the Boys’ Under-19 singles quarter-finals of the CCI Yonex Sunrise Mumbai District Badminton Championship 2026, organised by the Cricket Club of India (CCI) in association with the Greater Mumbai Badminton Association (GMBA).
Playing at the CCI badminton courts, top seed Harshit Mahimkar displayed complete control as he brushed aside Diyaan Zaveri 15-1, 15-4 in a one-sided Round of 16 encounter.
Second seed Akshat Raisurana was even more dominant, conceding just a single point during his emphatic 15-0, 15-1 victory over Advait Chaugule to book his place in the quarter-finals.
One of the most competitive matches of the day saw Durgesh Kandukuri overcome a first-game deficit to defeat Parth Lele 13-15, 15-11, 15-13. The hard-fought comeback victory earned Kandukuri a deserved place in the last eight.
Other players advancing to the Boys’ Under-19 quarter-finals included Reyansh Dubey, Ruhaan Bhatia, Dhruv Pawar, and Aarush Mittal, all of whom registered convincing wins in their respective Round of 16 matches.
In the Boys’ Under-15 category, Nirmay Shah, Sahaj Kadam, Palaash Jain, and Vir Butani progressed after impressive victories in their pre-quarter-final matches.
The championship continues to showcase Mumbai’s emerging badminton talent, with several highly-rated youngsters competing for district honours and future state-level opportunities.
