‘Our Thoughts and Prayers Are With the Families’: US Congressman Expresses Regret Over Death of Indian Sailors in Oman Strike

Congressman Voices Condolences

A senior US lawmaker has expressed sorrow over the deaths of three Indian crew members who were killed during a US military operation involving a commercial tanker near the coast of Oman. The remarks come as the incident continues to draw attention from both Washington and New Delhi.

Republican Congressman Rob Wittman described the loss of life as tragic and extended his sympathies to the families affected by the incident.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to those Indian families who lost their loved ones there in that situation,” he said.

US Reviewing Circumstances of Incident

Wittman said American military authorities are examining the details surrounding the strike to understand exactly what occurred.

“I know that our United States military is looking into that to try to determine exactly what happened there, but again, an unfortunate incident, one we absolutely want to try to avoid,” he added.

His comments come amid growing scrutiny over the military action that resulted in casualties among Indian nationals working aboard the vessel.

Three Indian Crew Members Killed

The incident occurred when a tanker operating near Oman was struck during a US military action, triggering a fire onboard. The vessel carried a large number of Indian crew members. While most of the crew were rescued safely, three Indian sailors lost their lives.

The deaths have sparked concern in India, where officials have sought accountability and greater protection for commercial shipping operating in the region.

India Raises Concerns with Washington

Following the incident, India conveyed its strong concerns to US authorities and called for measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future. New Delhi has also stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomatic efforts to maintain stability in the region.

Indian officials have reiterated that the safety of seafarers and commercial vessels remains a priority, particularly at a time of heightened tensions across key maritime routes.

Focus on Maritime Security

The tragedy has once again highlighted the risks faced by merchant ships operating in strategically important waters. As investigations continue, both countries are expected to closely monitor developments surrounding the incident.

The deaths of the three Indian sailors have added urgency to discussions on maritime safety, with calls for greater safeguards to protect civilian crews caught in conflict-related operations.
