‘50 TMC MLAs, 20 MPs Ready to Join BJP’: Saumitra Khan Sparks Political Storm in Bengal

BJP MP Saumitra Khan on Wednesday triggered fresh political buzz in West Bengal by claiming that dozens of Trinamool Congress leaders are unhappy within the party and are ready to switch sides if the BJP leadership approves their entry.

Addressing reporters, Khan alleged that nearly 50 TMC MLAs and around 20 MPs were in touch with the BJP and waiting for a signal from the party’s central leadership.

“If the BJP leadership gives permission once, the Trinamool Congress will not survive as a party anymore. Around 50 MLAs and 20 MPs are ready to join,” Khan claimed.

Sharp Attack on Abhishek Banerjee

The BJP leader also launched a strong attack on Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, accusing him of misusing power in the past.

Referring to earlier political clashes in Bengal, Khan alleged that BJP workers had faced demolition drives and harassment after the 2021 Assembly elections.

“Sinners have to face consequences. In 2021, houses of BJP workers were demolished. Today the situation is changing,” he said.

TMC Rejects BJP’s Claims

The Trinamool Congress quickly dismissed Khan’s statements, calling them politically motivated and baseless.

Senior TMC MP Sougata Roy said there was no truth in the BJP leader’s claims and accused the opposition party of spreading misinformation to create confusion.

“This is completely false. Nothing like this is going to happen,” Roy said.

Resignations Add Pressure on Ruling Party

The political controversy comes at a time when the Trinamool Congress is facing growing internal challenges after recent electoral setbacks and multiple resignations from civic bodies across the state.

Several councillors from municipalities in North 24 Parganas and nearby regions have resigned in recent weeks, creating instability in local administrations controlled by the ruling party.

Reports of corruption investigations, arrests of local leaders and tensions within municipal bodies have further intensified speculation around unrest inside the party.

Bengal Politics Heats Up Ahead of Civic Polls

Political tensions in West Bengal have sharply increased ahead of upcoming civic elections, with both BJP and Trinamool Congress stepping up attacks against each other.

The BJP has been trying to project itself as the main alternative in the state, while the ruling TMC continues to deny allegations of internal collapse.

The latest remarks by Saumitra Khan are expected to further escalate the political battle between the two parties in the coming days.
