Alliance Talks Intensify Ahead of Major Cabinet Reshuffle
The Vijay-led Tamil Nadu government is likely to accommodate the Congress party with two cabinet positions in the upcoming expansion of the state ministry, according to political sources familiar with ongoing alliance discussions.
The move is being viewed as part of a broader political balancing exercise by Chief Minister Vijay as his newly formed administration prepares for its first Assembly session and key governance decisions in the coming weeks.
Congress Expected to Get Representation in Ministry
Sources within the ruling alliance indicated to India Today that the Indian National Congress, which extended support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam-led coalition after the elections, is expected to be rewarded with two ministerial berths during the cabinet expansion.
Negotiations between TVK leaders and alliance partners are reportedly at an advanced stage, with discussions focusing on portfolio allocation and regional representation.
Political observers believe the inclusion of Congress ministers would help strengthen the coalition’s stability while also broadening the government’s support base across different regions of Tamil Nadu.
Vijay’s Earlier Promise Shapes Cabinet Discussions
During TVK’s first major political convention in Vikravandi, Vijay had assured supporting parties and alliance groups that they would receive “appropriate representation” in governance.
The expected inclusion of Congress leaders in the cabinet is now being seen as part of fulfilling that political commitment.
Apart from Congress, leaders linked to supporting factions and smaller regional groups are also seeking positions in the ministry as consultations continue within the alliance.
Cabinet Expansion Likely Before Assembly Session
Sources said the Vijay government is aiming to finalise the expanded cabinet structure within the next few days before moving ahead with the swearing-in ceremony at Raj Bhavan in Chennai.
The ministry is expected to expand significantly as the government attempts to balance alliance demands, caste equations and administrative priorities.
The cabinet reshuffle will likely be followed by the first full-fledged Assembly session of the new government and presentation of the Tamil Nadu Budget for 2026-27.
